Community Action Program for Children provides free drop-in programs for children 0 - 6 years, with parents/caregivers. Programs operate out of Rose Ave Public School, Wellesley Community Centre, and the Cabbagetown Youth Centre during the school year with special programs in the summer.
All of our programs promote, learning in a “play-based environment”, while supporting parenting techniques and strategies. Additional family support and advocacy is available by appointment. Through play the children are learning necessary skills to support their smooth transitions to school. Circle time provides opportunities for both the parent and child to participate together in listening to stories, learning new songs and fingerplays. This supports early language development.
Parents are engaged in multi-cultural cooking, while children learn to separate in another room with child-minders. Creative activities are provided such as painting, playdoh, water and sand play.
Physical activity is provided in a gym space, once a week where children develop gross motor skills such as catching, kicking, running, and jumping.
CAPC provides a Book and Toy Lending Library program. Children come out and play and upon leaving they can choose some books/toys to borrow.
Newcomer support is provided through informal discussions, parents share and exchange their experiences and challenges in coming to a new country.
