The Cabbagetown Youth Centre’s After-Four Program provides educational, recreational and social activities to children in junior kindergarten until fifth grade who live in the St. James Town, Cabbagetown and Regent Park neighbourhoods. Currently, the After-Four program serves sixty children. Staff pick-up the children in the program from three separate schools: Our Lady of Lourdes, Winchester Junior and Senior Public School and Rose Avenue Public School. The program runs Monday to Friday from 4:00-6:00 pm.

The After-Four Program is structured with activities that provide daily and other activities that are provided weekly. Everyday children participate in mindfulness, snack, reading/homework and physical literacy. If a child requires help with homework, instructors are present to help in French or English. Following reading/homework time, children participate in the physical literacy portion of the program. Aside from those activities, children participate in what staff refers to as “daily activities”. The activities vary every day and include nutrition, visual arts, basketball, boxing, performance arts and science. The physical literacy and the daily activities all align with the Ontario elementary curriculum.
At the end of each semester, staff host events which parents and guardians are invited to join. Children also go on one “trip” per month. The trips can range from the Children’s Book Bank, to Riverdale Farm or Allan Gardens.
